An Apple ID allows you to access multiple Apple resources such as Apple Discussiors, iTunes, the Apple Online Store and much more. It's important to keep your sign in credentials secure to reduce the chances of your Apple ID and personal information from being compromised. The following tips will help to reduce the risk of theft or stolen identity.

Apple takes precautions to safeguard your personal information against loss, theft, and misuse, as well as against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Apple online services such as the Apple Online Store and iTunes Store use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption on all web pages where personal information is collected. www.itunes.com/download.

To help with these precautions, please follow these tips:

Always sign out after you have finished purchasing from any Apple website or service.

Avoid using the same password for multiple online accounts.

Avoid using passwords that you have used in the past.

Your Apple ID account password should be something only you know, and should not be shared with anyone, even family members.

Choose a security question and answer that only you know the answer to, and that cannot be easily guessed by someone else.

To increase the security of your account, it is best to choose a password that contains at least eight characters and uses a combination of numbers, letters and symbols (for example, @, $ or %).

Changing your password frequently will help to reduce the chance of someone else gaining access to your Apple ID without your knowledge. You can change your password using iForgot.

If you suspect that someone knows your Apple ID username and password, change your account password immediately. In addition, if someone can access your email, they may be able to access your Apple ID. Make sure that the password to your email is different from your Apple ID.

For more information about what an Apple ID is please see the Apple ID Support page here.

This article provides irstructiors on how to opt out of receiving interest-based ads from the iAd mobile advertising network.

Apple and its partners use cookies and other technologies in mobile advertising services to control the number of times you see a given ad, deliver ads that relate to your interests, and measure the effectiveness of ad campaigns. If you do not want to receive ads with this level of relevance on your mobile device, you can opt out by accessing the following link on your iOS 4 mobile device: http://oo.apple.com. The message "You have successfully opted out" will appear and you will be automatically opted out of interest-based ads.

Make sure you are using a mobile device running iOS 4 or later. If you receive an "Opt out not successful" message, please wait a few hours and try again.

A few things you should know:

You may still see the same number of ads as before, but they may be less relevant because they will not be based on your interests.

You may still see ads related to the content in an application or based on other non-personal information.

If you use more than one Apple mobile device running iOS 4, you will have to opt out from each device individually.

Opting out applies only to Apple advertising services and does not affect interest-based advertising from other advertising networks.

Apple respects your privacy. Please view the Apple Customer Privacy Policy at http://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/ .

Your iTunes Store password should be distinct from any other account password you have.

Report unauthorized charges. Contact your financial institution or credit card company to report any unauthorized charges placed without your knowledge.

Contact iTunes Store Customer Support. If you’re unable to regain access to your account, or if there were unauthorized charges placed using your iTunes Store credit, please contact iTunes Store Support immediately.

Tip: To help ensure proper handling of your case, please be sure to include your iTunes Store account name (also known as your Apple ID), as well as the order numbers of the unauthorized purchases.

Start by copying the music files to each computer (either over a network, if your computers are networked, or by burning the music files onto CDs or DVDs – you can use a CD-RW or DVD-RW disc for this to save plastic). If you don’t know where the files are, use “Get Info” on one of them, and at the bottom of the Summary Tab, you’ll see “Where:” and a list of folders. Your music is inside of those folders, so you’ll need to copy (not move or cut) the songs from those folders onto discs or a networked folder.

Once you have added the songs to the iTunes libraries on each computer, you need to authorize the computers with the same iTunes Music Store account information. Just double-click any purchased song in iTunes, and enter your iTunes Music Store user name and password when prompted. You’ll need to have Internet access on each computer. When this is done, you’ll be able to use the music on all three computers, and on all three iPods. Note that you can have up to five computers authorized for your iTunes Music Store account.

While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys in Windows (CMD + Option keys on a Mac). This will stop the iPod from auto sync’ing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.

Then you can right click on the iPod icon in iTunes’ source column and select iPod Options, then check the box that says “Manually manage songs and playlists”. You can now manage your library without losing any songs on the iPod.

The iTunes Music Store sells its songs in a Protected AAC format that adds restrictions to files which use the otherwise-normal AAC compression format. Unless you’re using an iTunes-compatible phone, you can’t easily play those tracks. There are ways to get around this, but doing any of them could violate the iTunes Music Store Terms of Sale you agreed to by purchasing music. The least objectionable is to burn your Protected AAC files to an Audio CD and then re-import them into unprotected MP3 format. The resulting files will be playable on a non-iTunes phone.

Yes, this is possible. You will first want to turn off auto-sync in iPod Preferences in iTunes (with your iPod attached to your Mac, select it in the source list, and then click the iPod icon button on the lower right).

Then, in iTunes, manually copy over MP3s from your iTunes library to your iPod. Once the MP3s are copied over, delete them from your iTunes library & delete them off of your Mac. By turning auto-sync off, the next time you connect your iPod to your Mac, it will not try to make your iPod look exactly like your iTunes MP3 library. So, iTunes won’t delete the tracks off of your iPod that are no longer on your Mac & no longer in your iTunes library.

Then import (or rip and encode) the next batch of MP3s you want to put on your iPod, manually copy these MP3s to your iPod in iTunes, then delete them out of your library and off your Mac. Repeat until you have all the MP3s you want on your iPod (or until your iPod is full!).
