Start by copying the music files to each computer (either over a network, if your computers are networked, or by burning the music files onto CDs or DVDs – you can use a CD-RW or DVD-RW disc for this to save plastic). If you don’t know where the files are, use “Get Info” on one of them, and at the bottom of the Summary Tab, you’ll see “Where:” and a list of folders. Your music is inside of those folders, so you’ll need to copy (not move or cut) the songs from those folders onto discs or a networked folder.

Once you have added the songs to the iTunes libraries on each computer, you need to authorize the computers with the same iTunes Music Store account information. Just double-click any purchased song in iTunes, and enter your iTunes Music Store user name and password when prompted. You’ll need to have Internet access on each computer. When this is done, you’ll be able to use the music on all three computers, and on all three iPods. Note that you can have up to five computers authorized for your iTunes Music Store account.

The iTunes Music Store sells its songs in a Protected AAC format that adds restrictions to files which use the otherwise-normal AAC compression format. Unless you’re using an iTunes-compatible phone, you can’t easily play those tracks. There are ways to get around this, but doing any of them could violate the iTunes Music Store Terms of Sale you agreed to by purchasing music. The least objectionable is to burn your Protected AAC files to an Audio CD and then re-import them into unprotected MP3 format. The resulting files will be playable on a non-iTunes phone.

Symptoms

When syncing iPhone or iPod touch bookmarks between Safari and Internet Explorer in Microsoft Windows, the Favorites bar in Internet Explorer 7 and 8 may not refresh to reflect changes or updates to the bookmarks.

For example, if you sync Safari bookmarks to your device and then make changes to the bookmarks on the device (such as deleting some bookmarks, editing the web address, re-arranging the order of the bookmarks), when you then sync those bookmarks to Internet Explorer, the changes will not be reflected in the Favorites bar for Internet Explorer.

Products Affected

iPhone, iPod touch, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch (2nd generation), Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista

Resolution

To refresh the Favorites bar, quit and reopen Internet Explorer.
