MacBook Air: “The original item cannot be found” when trying to access DVD movies or audio CDs with Remote Disc

Symptoms

When trying to access certain optical discs using Remote Disc, you may see the message "The operation cannot be completed because the original item for cannot be found."

MacBook Air does not support playing DVD movies or audio CD media with Remote Disc DVD or CD Sharing. In addition, some discs, such as game discs, may be copy-protected and therefore unusable.

Additional Information

If this message is occurring with other types of discs, check to see if you have Firewall settings enabled on the host computer using this article.
