Learn about the Apple Battery Charger, which types of batteries are supported, what the indicator lights mean, and tips for optimal usage.

Apple Battery Charger is designed to efficiently charge your rechargeable batteries for use in your Apple wireless devices. Apple Battery Charger supports charging two AA (double-A) size nickel metal hydride (NiMH) low self-discharge batteries. You can use either the batteries that come with Apple Battery Charger or your own batteries.

It’s important to make sure Apple Battery Charger is fully assembled (including the batteries) before plugging it into a power outlet. Apple Battery charger may become warm after routine use; this is normal. It may take up to five hours to fully charge the batteries.

Batteries fully charged with Apple Battery Charger and used in some wireless input devices released earlier than Magic Trackpad may appear to have slightly less than 100% charge when you view the available battery life in the Bluetooth menu bar in Mac OS X. This is normal behavior and does not necessarily indicate that the batteries were not fully charged.

Checking the Status Indicator Lights

The indicator light located on top of the Apple Battery Charger displays the charging status of the batteries.

Amber: The batteries are charging.

Green: The batteries are charged and ready to use.

Flashing Amber: This may indicate any of the following conditions:

The batteries have not been properly installed.

An unsupported type of battery is in the charger.

The batteries may be faulty or damaged and should be replaced.

No Light: May indicate either of the following conditions:

The batteries are charged and ready to use, but more than six hours have elapsed.

The inserted batteries are too fully discharged to be detected immediately by Apple Battery Charger.

When to Unplug Apple Battery Charger

You should unplug Apple Battery Charger from the power outlet if any of the following conditions exist:

The charger plug, the adaptor itself, or the charging case is damaged.

The charger is exposed to rain, liquid, or excessive moisture.

You suspect the charger needs service or repair.

The AC power cord has become frayed or damaged.

You suspect a battery is damaged.

For most Wi-Fi networks, FaceTime video calling will just work. If you are on a Wi-Fi network that is behind a firewall, see below.

About firewalls

Frequently used by corporations and educational institutions for increased security, firewalls work by blocking certain Internet traffic from entering or leaving a network.

Internet traffic moves through a firewall based on service-identification numbers that are referred to as ports. Certain ports must be open for FaceTime to work. Network administrators typically open a minimal set of network ports, allowing the traffic for approved applications to enter and leave the network while blocking other network traffic.

Ports to open

If the Wi-Fi network router that you are connected to uses a firewall or security software to restrict Internet access, contact the network administrator and reference this technical article. To use FaceTime on a restricted Wi-Fi network, port forwarding must be enabled for ports 443 (TCP), 3478–3497 (UDP), 16384–16386 (UDP), and 16393–16402 (UDP).

Depending on the NAT configuration for the router and network, additional ports may be used to send and receive video. Some router-specific features or configurations may interfere with FaceTime. This includes port mapping on either end, SIP dropping, or dynamic opening of media ports.

The Wi-Fi network administrator can refer to their router, firewall, or security software documentation for information on configuring port forwarding.

If you encounter issues using a Wi-Fi network, use standard Wi-Fi network troubleshooting to resolve interference and other issues.

iTunes for Windows includes Device Sync Tests within iTunes Diagnostics. Device Sync Tests can assist you in troubleshooting an issue when trying to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in iTunes. This can assist with issues around syncing contacts, calendars, mail accounts, bookmarks, and notes over USB on your computer.

Note: iTunes Diagnostics is used to gather and display information about your computer—it does not resolve issues itself. You can use the information provided in the diagnostics to troubleshoot an issue you may be having, but you may need to follow specific steps in a related article or have assistance from an Apple Advisor to resolve an issue. See the sections below to learn more about the content of iTunes Diagnostics and find related troubleshooting articles.

To run Device Sync Tests, follow these steps:

Install the latest version of iTunes.

Open iTunes and choose Run Diagnostics from the Help menu.

Make sure "Device sync test" is selected and click Next.

While the test is running, a Command Prompt window should appear:

Once complete, the resulting information (sample shown below) can help you troubleshoot syncing issues related to iTunes.

When the results are displayed, a status light appears next to each test. A green light next to a particular test indicates that no issues were found. When iTunes detects an issue with a test, a red or yellow light is displayed next to a Help button. The Help button will display troubleshooting information in iTunes or on the Apple support website that may resolve the issue.

In addition to the status lights and support content, iTunes can display a detailed report of the computer’s configuration and connectivity test results by clicking Next. This report has several sections which contain different information.

Understanding the Device Sync Tests report

General system information:

This first section of the diagnostics report displays the following general information:

Windows version and build

Make and model of the PC

Version of iTunes and QuickTime installed

Whether or not the current user profile has administrator privileges

Device Sync Tests:

This section of the diagnostic report shows if the Device Sync Tests were successful, and may include information on why the issue is occurring.

An Apple ID allows you to access multiple Apple resources such as Apple Discussiors, iTunes, the Apple Online Store and much more. It's important to keep your sign in credentials secure to reduce the chances of your Apple ID and personal information from being compromised. The following tips will help to reduce the risk of theft or stolen identity.

Apple takes precautions to safeguard your personal information against loss, theft, and misuse, as well as against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Apple online services such as the Apple Online Store and iTunes Store use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption on all web pages where personal information is collected. www.itunes.com/download.

To help with these precautions, please follow these tips:

Always sign out after you have finished purchasing from any Apple website or service.

Avoid using the same password for multiple online accounts.

Avoid using passwords that you have used in the past.

Your Apple ID account password should be something only you know, and should not be shared with anyone, even family members.

Choose a security question and answer that only you know the answer to, and that cannot be easily guessed by someone else.

To increase the security of your account, it is best to choose a password that contains at least eight characters and uses a combination of numbers, letters and symbols (for example, @, $ or %).

Changing your password frequently will help to reduce the chance of someone else gaining access to your Apple ID without your knowledge. You can change your password using iForgot.

If you suspect that someone knows your Apple ID username and password, change your account password immediately. In addition, if someone can access your email, they may be able to access your Apple ID. Make sure that the password to your email is different from your Apple ID.

For more information about what an Apple ID is please see the Apple ID Support page here.
